Sierra Leone’s opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has accused the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of attempting to unlawfully take control of the Tonkolili District Council, escalating political tensions at the local government level.
In a statement, the APC alleged that recent actions by the SLPP were aimed at undermining the existing leadership structure of the council and altering its political balance.

The party described the move as an attempt to “seize control” of the council, though it did not immediately provide detailed evidence to support the claim.
The SLPP has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
Tonkolili District Council, located in central Sierra Leone, has in recent years been a politically contested area between the two main parties, reflecting broader national rivalries between the governing SLPP and opposition APC.
The dispute comes amid ongoing political tensions between both parties, including disagreements over governance and representation at local and national levels.
