Sierra Leone’s parliament speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas has urged opposition lawmakers from the All People’s Congress (APC) to return to parliament, warning that their continued boycott risks undermining the country’s democratic process.

Thomas made the appeal in a public statement, calling on the absent legislators to “find a way back to parliament” and resume their duties in the Well of the House.

The speaker said the prolonged absence of APC Members of Parliament weakens legislative work and limits effective representation of constituents, stressing that parliament functions best when all elected representatives are present and engaged.

Opposition MPs from the APC have been boycotting parliamentary proceedings amid ongoing political tensions, though the specific duration and conditions of the boycott were not detailed in the statement.

Thomas emphasised the need for dialogue and cooperation, urging lawmakers to prioritise national interest over political differences.

The appeal comes at a time when concerns are growing over the impact of political divisions on governance and lawmaking in Sierra Leone.
