Six luxury vehicles allegedly stolen from Canada and impounded by Sierra Leonean authorities have reportedly gone missing from police custody, raising fresh questions about asset handling and transparency within law-enforcement agencies.
The vehicles – a 2025 Land Cruiser Defender and five Lexus RX 350 SUVs – were inspected on July 23, 2025, by Internal Affairs Minister Morie Lengor at Queen Elizabeth II Quay (Water Quay) in Freetown, where they had been impounded pending investigations.
Authorities later moved the vehicles to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) headquarters in Hastings for safekeeping, according to official statements at the time.
However, multiple sources within the police allege that all six vehicles have disappeared from TOCU custody.
Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the vehicles were under police control but did not provide details on their current location or status. Authorities have not publicly disclosed whether the vehicles were released, transferred, forfeited, or remain under investigation.
The Sierra Leone Police said investigations are ongoing.
The case has drawn public attention amid broader concerns about the handling of seized assets and cross-border crime cooperation involving stolen vehicles originating from North America and Europe.
