Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has held a strategic meeting with a delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to align efforts on expanding the Bank’s investment footprint in the country.
The discussions centered on streamlining project implementation and enhancing coordination to maximize the impact of ongoing and future investments. The IsDB, which has operated in Sierra Leone for 43 years, has invested approximately $200 million in critical sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
The Chief Minister highlighted IsDB’s crucial role in supporting the government’s Feed Salone initiative and other key projects in roads and energy. He also acknowledged President Julius Maada Bio’s high-level engagement with IsDB officials in Saudi Arabia last year, which has led to renewed focus on Sierra Leone as a priority investment destination.
Dr. Sengeh underscored the government’s commitment to facilitating IsDB’s operations, noting that the IsDB Insurance Facility has received Cabinet approval and is now awaiting parliamentary endorsement.
Over the past week, IsDB representatives have held extensive consultations with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as the private sector, to devise a more cohesive investment strategy.
The Chief Minister emphasized that such strategic partnerships are vital to achieving President Bio’s vision for sustainable socio-economic transformation in Sierra Leone.
