A total of 160 police personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) are set for deployment in Somalia.
The Directorate of Peacekeeping in the Sierra Leone Police has, on Monday 31st March, 2020, completed the preparation of 160 Formed Police Unit (FPU) personnel for deployment September. A statement from the SLP said Monday.
According to the statement, each officer was supplied with the full uniform and operational gadgets. It said, they include;’’1 pair rain boots
Rain coat
3 pairs of uniform
5 face towels
1 sun glass
1 big paramilitary travel bag
1 pair boots
1 pair socks
2 polos
4 facemasks
1 pair Leone Star jersey’’ and continued,
‘’ the first 80 personnel will leave on Saturday 6th September’’ the statement noted.
‘’It could be recalled that the government of Sierra Leone made commitment, few years ago, to support the peace process in Somalia by sending Police Peacekeepers. The Sierra Leone Police has since been deploying Individual Police Officers (IPOs) and Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingents.’’ The statement concluded.
The prepared personnel are the third contingents to be deployed following the rotation period of one year. All 160 would be Peacekeepers are now 100% alert and set for deployment.
