The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has intensified its efforts to clear illegal garages and relocate commercial motorbike riders in a bid to ease traffic congestion and enhance public safety along major routes in Freetown.
On Saturday, June 7, SLRSA Executive Director James Baggie Bio led a team to the Model Junction area, where the Authority continued its ongoing exercise to remove unauthorized vehicle repair sites that have obstructed traffic flow and contributed to hazardous conditions for road users.

According to the SLRSA, the operation is part of a broader strategy to decongest key urban areas and create designated parking zones for bike riders. These measures aim to reduce road crashes, improve traffic management, and ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
“The clearing of illegal garages and provision of organized bike parking is crucial to our road safety goals,” said Mr. Bio. “We are committed to making the roads safer for everyone—drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.”
He emphasized that road safety remains a top priority for the Authority, noting that stricter regulations and enforcement actions are being rolled out to minimize accidents and restore order to Sierra Leone’s busy roadways.
The SLRSA called on the public, especially transport operators and bike riders, to cooperate with the initiative and respect designated parking and traffic zones. The Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders in creating a safer and more efficient transport system across the country.
The exercise is expected to continue in other parts of Freetown and beyond in the coming weeks.
