FREETOWN, SIEERA LONE –  Edward Samadia, the Deputy Police Chief of Sierra Leone, has retired from active service. Reports from the Police said yesterday. Edward reached his retirement age on Wednesday 5th February 2025.

His retirement marks a unique pathway as a civil servant in  the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), a force in which he has served  fulfilling various high-ranking roles under different police chiefs and governments.

Samadia, has been in the position of Deputy Police Chief for the past year. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment and hard work . His retirement is a milestone not just for his personal career, but for the Sierra Leone Police, as he is the first to hold this crucial post without being dismissed  or replaced prior to reaching the retirement age.

Reports suggest that throughout his service, Samadia was known for taking on challenging assignments.

He had faced often navigating complex situations that tested his leadership and professionlism .

He is said to have be involved in large-scale operations or ensuring law enforcement adherence across the country.

A tactical and thinker whose  strategy, and resilience became a hallmark of his tenure.

Fact is, his predecessors, were either removed or dismissed before completing their service.

And this is mostly as a result of politics; as the position is a political appointment and driven by the government the day.

His retirement marks not the end, but a new chapter for the SLP, as it continues to evolve and tackle the evolving  challenges ; especially when it has lost public trust and confidence .

 Mostly , the Police is seen as a tool being used by politicians to suppress real democratic voices and their opponents.
