Bo City, 18 April 2025 – His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone and alumnus of Bo Government Secondary School (Bo School), returned to his alma mater as Guest of Honour for the school’s annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony on Friday.

Organized by the Old Bo Boys Association, the event brought together students, educators, traditional leaders, diplomats, alumni, and community members on the historic Bo School grounds. In his opening remarks, President Bio fondly recalled how the school’s emphasis on discipline and hard work laid the foundation for his own leadership journey.

“I will never tire of attending Bo School events,” he said. “Seeing the President at their school inspires children to learn. Our success today began here, through the values instilled at Bo School.”

Drawing on his personal experience, President Bio explained that his administration’s focus on human capital development is both deliberate and heartfelt. “Every child in Sierra Leone deserves the chance to gain knowledge and succeed, regardless of their background,” he affirmed.

He praised Bo School’s role in fostering unity and academic excellence by bringing together pupils from all regions. “Bo School is more than an institution—it’s a family,” he added, noting recent investments in Information and Communication Technology to prepare students for a globalized world.

The President also recognized First Lady Fatima Bio for her “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign, urging students—especially boys—to support the empowerment of women and girls. “Our future is brightest when we advance together,” he remarked.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing, also a Guest of Honour, congratulated the Bo School community on its legacy and highlighted ongoing educational cooperation between China and Sierra Leone. He noted that the China Ambassador’s Scholarship Programme had supported 20 Bo School pupils last year and expressed hope for deepening ties.

Acting Principal Mr. Kosia Michael S. 4208 provided an overview of the school’s academic performance and infrastructure projects. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of academic prizes, underscoring Bo School’s standing as one of Sierra Leone’s premier centers of learning.
