The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has officially commenced a rigorous training program for over 1,000 newly recruited soldiers at the Armed Forces Training Centre in Benguema, Western Rural District.

According to military officials, the new recruits will undergo a comprehensive six-month training designed to instill discipline, physical fitness, and tactical military knowledge. The training marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s defense capacity and equipping the next generation of soldiers with the necessary skills to serve and protect Sierra Leone.

The recruits, who were selected from across the country following a nationwide recruitment exercise, are expected to be trained in areas such as field combat, weapon handling, military ethics, and civic responsibilities. Military instructors and high-ranking officers have assured the public that the training process will be both thorough and professional.

The move is part of ongoing efforts by the government and the Ministry of Defence to bolster national security and create employment opportunities for young people. Authorities also highlighted the importance of building a well-disciplined and professional army to respond effectively to national and regional security challenges.

Family members and community leaders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive development for youth empowerment and national development.

The training is expected to conclude later this year with a passing-out parade, after which the recruits will officially join the ranks of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
