Orange Mobile Finance Sierra Leone has launched a Mastercard virtual card, enabling customers to make international digital payments directly from their mobile money wallets, the company said on Friday.
The product, developed in partnership with Mastercard and Zenith Bank Sierra Leone, allows users of Orange Money to pay for goods and services globally wherever Mastercard is accepted.
The virtual card is integrated into Orange Money wallets, enabling real-time access to funds and supporting online shopping, subscriptions, travel bookings and other digital services.
Orange Money Chief Executive Officer David S. Mansaray said the launch marked a major step in expanding financial inclusion and connecting customers to the global digital economy.
Zenith Bank Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer Ugochukwu Irechukwu said the partnership would strengthen the link between traditional banking and mobile financial services, improving access to secure and convenient payment systems.
Mastercard regional official Bossman Akuffo Kwapong described the product as a significant advancement for digital payments in West Africa, saying it would expand access to global commerce.
The launch is expected to benefit young people, freelancers and small business owners who previously faced challenges in making international online payments.
Orange Money said the service can be accessed through its mobile application, with features including security controls, instant transactions and global merchant acceptance across Mastercard’s international network.
