Swift action by the Sierra Leone Police has led to the successful recovery of a newborn baby who was abducted from the maternity ward of the Port Loko Government Hospital.
The baby was reported stolen shortly after birth, prompting widespread alarm and a rapid response from law enforcement authorities. According to police sources, a woman posing as a hospital visitor allegedly snatched the child under false pretenses and fled the facility.
Following a coordinated investigation involving local units and community tip-offs, the suspect was located and apprehended, and the baby was rescued unharmed.
Authorities have confirmed that the child has since been reunited with the mother, and medical checks are being conducted to ensure the infant’s health and wellbeing. Meanwhile, the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue.
This incident has sparked renewed concern about hospital security, particularly in maternity wards. Health officials are now reviewing safety protocols to prevent similar cases in the future.
The police have praised the public for their cooperation and assured citizens of their continued commitment to child protection and community safety.
