Sierra Leone’s National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) and the National Investment Board (NIB) have agreed to integrate the national identification system into the country’s business registration process, in a move aimed at improving efficiency and investor confidence.

The decision followed a high-level meeting held on April 9 in Freetown, where officials from both institutions discussed embedding the National Identification Number (NIN) into the NIB’s One Stop Shop (OSS), a центраlised business facilitation platform.
The integration is expected to streamline registration procedures by linking them to verified identity data, reducing delays, inconsistencies and opportunities for fraud that have historically affected the process.
Officials said the move would allow entrepreneurs and investors to register businesses more quickly while improving transparency and accountability.
The meeting was convened at the request of the NIB, which operates under the Office of the Vice President, as part of broader government reforms to improve the ease of doing business in Sierra Leone.
Following the discussions, both institutions agreed to strengthen collaboration, with the NCRA assigning a staff member to the One Stop Shop to ensure real-time identity verification services are incorporated into the registration workflow.
NIB Executive Director Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy welcomed the initiative, describing the NCRA as central to the success of the One Stop Shop and emphasising the importance of a reliable identity management system in business facilitation.
The partnership is seen as a key step in Sierra Leone’s efforts to modernise its business environment and attract investment by reducing administrative barriers and improving institutional coordination.
Officials said the collaboration would continue as the One Stop Shop moves toward full implementation, with expectations that the reforms will support economic growth and boost investor confidence.
