By Kevin Kamara

(– Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has called on lawyers across Sierra Leone to uphold their duty to defend the oppressed, even in politically sensitive or unpopular cases.
Speaking at the launch of the Sierra Leone chapter of the African Bar Association, Kamara stressed that the legal profession must remain a safeguard for the vulnerable and a cornerstone of constitutional democracy.
He urged senior members of the Bar to mentor younger lawyers to become fearless advocates for justice, human rights and the rule of law.

“The legal profession must stand firm without fear or compromise,” he said, emphasizing the need for integrity and courage in defending fundamental rights.
The establishment of the Sierra Leone chapter marks a step toward strengthening the country’s ties to a broader continental network of legal professionals committed to democratic governance and justice.
Participants at the event said the move would enhance collaboration among African lawyers while reinforcing their role in promoting accountability, protecting civil liberties and upholding institutional integrity.
Kamara added that the future of democracy in Africa depends largely on legal practitioners willing to defend the truth and give a voice to the voiceless.
