Football fans gathered at the Approved School Playing Field in Freetown to protest the dismissal of former Leone Stars head coach Mohamed Kallon, calling for his reinstatement.
Videos circulating on social media showed supporters chanting and expressing frustration over the decision by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to terminate Kallon’s contract earlier this month.
The protest reflects growing public support for Kallon, a former international football star widely regarded as one of Sierra Leone’s greatest players, who was appointed head coach of the national team in 2025.

Kallon’s dismissal was confirmed on April 2, when the SLFA said the decision followed a “technical and strategic assessment,” arguing that a change in leadership was necessary to improve the team’s performance and competitiveness.
During his tenure, expectations were high given his status as a national football icon and former striker for top European clubs, including Inter Milan. However, the national team faced mixed results and ongoing structural challenges, which ultimately failed to convince football authorities.
Unverified reports circulating in local media and on social platforms have also suggested possible issues related to professional conduct, including alleged failure to attend mandatory pre- and post-match press conferences, though these claims have not been officially confirmed by the SLFA.
The decision has since sparked widespread debate among fans and stakeholders, with many questioning the timing and transparency of the move, while others argue that reforms are needed to strengthen the national team.
Supporters at the protest insisted that Kallon’s experience, passion and legacy make him the right figure to lead the Leone Stars, as pressure mounts on football authorities to review the decision.
