President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to peace, national unity and democratic governance during a meeting with international guarantors of Sierra Leone’s Agreement for National Unity, officials said.

The delegation, led by former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, praised Bio’s leadership in promoting dialogue, political stability and democratic progress in Sierra Leone and the wider ECOWAS region.
Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh briefed the meeting on ongoing engagements between the government and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), describing them as constructive steps toward implementing the unity agreement.

Bio said his administration remained focused on consolidating peace and advancing development, citing reforms such as the abolition of the death penalty and the repeal of the seditious libel law as key milestones in strengthening democratic governance.
He called on Sierra Leoneans to move beyond political divisions and work toward national cohesion, reiterating his vision of making the country an “oasis of peace.”
The Agreement for National Unity was brokered following political tensions in the country, with support from regional and international partners aimed at fostering dialogue and stability.
