Drivers Union Election: Minister of Internal Affairs intervenes

In his proactive measures to maintaining peace and stability in the Country, the Minister of Internal Affairs Major-General Rtd. David Taluva has engaged Motor Drivers Union Executive to intervene between conflicting parties, in order to resolve differences and maintain peace and stability in the Country before and after the Unions forthcoming National Executive elections.

The engagement aimed to foster collaboration, settle impasse and to maintain peace and stability in the Country.

During the engagement, the Minister underscored the crucial role and contributions of the Motor Drivers Union in the development of the Country, wherein, he highlighted that one of their responsibilities is to set the agenda for peace and stability in the Country, and to ensure compliance with the law.

It is noteworthy that there is serious impasse between Drivers Union Executive and the delegates, regarding the eligibility of the incoming Drivers Union Presidential Aspirants and other Executive positions towards their forthcoming election. As a way of maintaining peace and calmness in the Country, we are therefore going to put a hold on the elections until all differences are settled, but as you play your role ensure that you are also in compliance with law and order. I also urged you all to stay calm as a way of maintaining peace and stability. Minister Taluva admonished the Drivers Union Executive.

After a long engagement and discussions, it was agreed that the parties together with their team should all stay calm and uphold peace and unity, within their groups for national development, while commiting them to a new date to be fixed for a fair and violence-free elections.

Concluding, Minister Taluva requested for all necessary documents, regarding the Motor Drivers Union, delegates list and other substantive evidence from the Unions outgoing executive, so that he would table it to other Stakeholders for due diligence and Investigation surrounding the Unions executive positions for the upcoming elections, in order to slate a new date for the election.
