Man Committed to High Court Trial Over Alleged Goat Killing in Sierra Leone

( – A magistrate court in Sierra Leone has committed a man to stand trial at the High Court over allegations of killing a pregnant goat with intent to steal, court officials said.
The accused, John Kanu, was sent forward by the Masiaka Magistrate Court following preliminary proceedings into the matter.
According to the charge, Kanu is accused of killing “one pregnant she-goat valued at Le 3,000 with intent to steal the carcass,” property belonging to Osman Gibril Kanu.
The alleged incident took place on March 3, 2026, in Maserkoh Village, Masemira Chiefdom, within the Port Loko Judicial District.
Under Sierra Leonean law, cases involving serious criminal allegations are transferred to the High Court after committal proceedings in the magistrate court.
The accused is expected to face trial at a later date.
