The government of Sierra Leone and the World Food Programme on Friday launched a new five-year strategy aimed at strengthening food systems, improving nutrition and building resilience across the country.
The Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for 2026–2030 sets out a shift from short-term food assistance to longer-term development approaches focused on sustainable food production and human capital, officials said at the launch event in Freetown.

The plan is aligned with Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan, the government’s Feed Salone initiative and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
It focuses on three key areas: improving preparedness and response to shocks, expanding access to safe and nutritious food — particularly for schoolchildren and vulnerable groups — and supporting resilient livelihoods through stronger local agricultural value chains.
Senior government officials, United Nations representatives, development partners and civil society groups attended the launch, highlighting food security as a central pillar of national development efforts.
Officials said the strategy is expected to enhance coordination among stakeholders and support long-term efforts to reduce hunger and malnutrition in the country.
