Statistics Sierra Leone has intensified public engagement efforts ahead of the 2026 Population and Housing Census, holding a civic town hall meeting in Karene District to boost awareness and participation.

The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, took place at the Karene District Council Hall and brought together local authorities, civil society groups, students and residents.

Representing the Statistician-General, Director of Communications and Public Relations Samuel Ansumana said the census would play a critical role in national planning, resource allocation and evidence-based policymaking.

He urged residents to participate actively in the exercise and reassured them of the confidentiality and integrity of the data collection process.

The meeting provided a platform for residents to ask questions and raise concerns, as part of efforts to promote transparency and build public trust in the process.

Officials said the engagement forms part of a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at ensuring an inclusive and credible census.

Statistics Sierra Leone says it is committed to delivering accurate data that reflects the country’s demographic profile and supports development planning.
