Sierra Leone-based health organisation Action Against Cancer has officially changed its name to Wellness and NCD Initiatives to reflect an expanded mandate tackling a broader range of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), the group said on Tuesday.
The NGO, which has historically focused on cancer prevention, treatment support, and advocacy, said the rebranding allows it to address rising rates of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory illnesses.
“We are broadening our focus to promote prevention, early detection, treatment support, and community wellness across the full spectrum of NCDs, while continuing our cancer-related programs,” the organisation said in a statement.
The group plans to strengthen education and awareness campaigns, deepen partnerships with government agencies and health institutions, and scale up advocacy efforts, it added.
Action Against Cancer thanked its partners, donors, and communities for their support under its former name and called for continued collaboration as it transitions to Wellness and NCD Initiatives.
