hunting trip in eastern Sierra Leone ended in tragedy on Friday when a man accidentally shot and killed his companion in Bandajuma village, Malema chiefdom, local media reported.
The two hunters were tracking game in a forest near the village in Kailahun District when one misfired, striking the other, according to a report by MunBlog-Sierra, an online news outlet. The victim died at the scene.
Police in Kailahun said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests had been announced by Saturday evening.
Hunting is a common activity in Sierra Leone’s rural communities, but authorities have warned of the dangers of using locally made firearms in dense forest areas.
