A local radio journalist has been found dead under gruesome circumstances .
Samuel Brima who was working for a local radio station, Radio VOPAD 96.5 FM in the Western Area Rural district was reported missing earlier last week after failing to return home from his usual radio talk show program.
Samuel”s body was found in an abandoned area on the outskirts of his residential community.
His death has raised serious questions about safety in the area.
Police and the local Authorities discovered the decomposed remains of the radio reporter Samuel Mattia whose body was found on the 16th January 2025 , in a location he frequented during his routine work.
Samuel , a respected voice on the local airwaves with the Waterloo community was known for his controversial talk show program .
His family had expressed growing concern when he failed to contact them for two days, something entirely out of character for the dedicated journalist.
The Western Area district council has also condemned the gruesome murder of Samuel . “”We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a journalist Samuel Mattia “” a statement from the Council .
The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), has condemned the killing and called for a speedy investigation into the Journalist’s death.
“” SLAJ unequivocally condemns any form of violence against journalists and emphasizes the necessity of protecting press freedom and the lives of those who deligently work to inform and educate the public “. A statement from SLAJ said .
The statement further said “” we urge the Sierra Leone Police to undertake a comprehensive and prompt investigation into the events surrounding Samuel”s death . It’s essential that the individuals responsible for this act are held accountable and that such a horrific crime does not go unpunished “” the statement noted.
According to the police in Waterloo , four people including the radio” s manager.
The condition of the remains indicated that he had been dead for few days before being discovered.
Reports confirmed the cause of death was blunt force trauma, with signs of a violent struggle preceding his death.
The investigation continues as the police and authorities work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind this brutal crime.
