Energy Minister Commissions 250kva Transformer

Staying true to his promise of returning to the Kingharman Maternal and Child Health Hospital for the formal commissioning of a 250kva transformer he presented to the hospital last week, energy minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has today, formally commissioned the said transformer. The commissioning ceremony which took place at the hospital, attracted several dignitaries, including but not limited to the minister of health Dr. Alpha Wurrie, officials from the ministries of energy and health, and EDSA.

Last week Tuesday, Mr. Sesay was at the hospital to present the transformer to management in fulfillment of a promise he made to them in October of last year when he was asked to help the facility in the area of electricity.

Making a brief but very important statement, Mr. Sesay said that he was not going to say much again since he had explained everything about the project from conception to inception during last week’s presentation ceremony. He was quick though to shower praise on President Bio for his vision for the country, his care for the people, and his insistence on improving service delivery. He noted that the ceremony was a testimony to the strides made to adhere to the overall policy objective of the President in respect of the energy and health sectors.

Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Alpha Wurrie said that the reconstructed or refurbished hospital was commissioned in October 2019, noting that for a facility as huge as the hospital, a whole year was what was needed to get everything up and running and fully functioning. He added that the hospital now has a 250kva transformer exclusively dedicated to catering for its electricity needs with a view to improving the quality of electricity and service delivery.

Health and Sanitation minister went on to say that he was gratified seeing the strong partnership between his ministry and that of the energy ministry. He catalogued instances where the minister of energy had intervened with urgency to address crucial electricity concerns at hospital facilities, citing the Jui and Lungi hospitals as classic cases in point. He concluded by saying that every sector was vital, and urged all to continue to show synergy and collaboration so as to ensure good governance and better service delivery.

While expressing her gratitude to the ministers of energy and health, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Sarah Conteh praised the Government for coming to the rescue of the facility. She said the whole project started last year, but that she was more than delighted to witness the practical realization of it. She maintained that the transformer would improve service delivery and would totally eliminate the pains which they used to go through when the hospital was connected to a community grid. She concluded by stating that the previous lives of children would be saved with the now reliable availability of electricity.

The minister of energy officially cut the tape to symbolize the operationalization of the transformer. The energy minister continues to impress many a citizen and sector, and with the level of collaboration he has established with other ministries, Sierra Leone could be said to be on the right path in its energy reformation drive.
