The deceitful trio
By Saidu Bangura
These three can bow to anything –
the nation’s eavesdroppers
the nation’s undoers of science
and our horrible representatives –
anything that looks like them,
whatever that gives them delight.
The nation’s eavesdroppers
eavesdrop on our hardships
chuckle on our sufferings
and on our collective pains;
listen to our conversations
enjoying the dramas acted
upon the masses thinking
we know not who they are:
tomorrow, we will tell them
they also have tormented us
and crucified us on this cross
we call land that we love.
The nation’s undoers of science
parading grandiloquently with
knowledge but know not how to
intellectually tell truth to power,
free a society from the chokeholds
our political monsters choke us in,
how they twist their tongues when
they misrepresent all the science
they claim to know and sermonise:
tomorrow, we will show them how
they shamelessly betrayed science.
Our horrible representatives,
who misrepresent our voices,
speak and act not on our behalf,
who have connived against us
and remained silent on issues
that matter to our wellbeing:
tomorrow, they will be shown
the pleasures of the hardships
they have helped to produce –
there will be poetic justice for
what we have gone through –
all our predators who preyed
on our people and resources
will face the truth they have
compromised and silenced.
These three are our chokeholds –
the nation’s eavesdroppers
the nation’s undoers of science
and our horrible representatives.
Yesterday, they were at the front
in the discussions of our freedom
pretending to be progressives,
the baritones of our sufferings
with vitriolic lingo on the other.
Today, they are at the vanguard
in the suffering meted out on us
while others kowtow the system
pretending not to see, hear, feel
the sufferings of the people they
claimed were their mountains.
Tomorrow, they will meet their
Waterloo when the mountains
begin to roll down on scoundrels.
