Businessman Remanded in Case of $17 Thousand US Dollar Fraud

Gabriel Alie Bangura, a businessman, has, in a case of fraud to the tune of US $ 17, 000 heard on Monday 5th February 2024 before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road of Court No. 2 been remanded in prison.
Bangura, the accused was making his first appearance. He had been charged with the offense of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses contrary to law.
The police are saying that the accused on the 15th of December 2023 at Adonkia police station in the Western Area, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of US $ 17,000 the equivalent NLe 395,000 from Ibrahim Koroma by falsely and intentionally pretending that he had a Toyota vehicle for sale.
After the charges had been read and explained to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty.
A.O. Gbla, counsel representing the accused, applied for Bangura to be admitted to bail citing section 79 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
The prosecutor, Police Sergeant Dwight Macarthy in reply objected to the application for bail made by the defense counsel via an affidavit in opposition
Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown and adjourned the matter to the 13th of February 2024 for further hearing.
Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy is prosecuting this matter.
