Police intervened at Sierra International Academy in eastern Sierra Leone after an after-school contest descended into chaos, leading to the arrest of the school’s principal, witnesses said.

The incident occurred on Monday when what began as a competitive event among students reportedly escalated into disorder, prompting panic within the school and nearby community.
Eyewitnesses said tensions rose during the contest, with some students becoming agitated and engaging in disruptive behaviour that quickly overwhelmed organisers.
Security personnel were called to the scene to restore calm, and the situation was brought under control, according to local accounts.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the unrest or the circumstances surrounding the principal’s arrest.
The incident has raised concerns about student safety and supervision during extracurricular activities, as well as the need for effective crowd control measures in school settings.
