Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Raman Swaray, has led a government delegation to Lugbu Chiefdom in Bo District to mediate a dispute involving Sierra Tropical Limited and local stakeholders.
The visit on April 11 brought together officials from the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs to engage workers, community leaders and company representatives over reported grievances linked to labour conditions and community relations.

Officials said the discussions were aimed at restoring calm, addressing concerns raised by workers and ensuring continued cooperation between the company and surrounding communities.
Swaray reaffirmed government’s commitment to job creation, saying the intervention aligned with President Julius Maada Bio’s development agenda focused on expanding employment opportunities.
He urged all parties to remain engaged in dialogue, stressing that peaceful resolution of disputes was essential for sustaining investment and protecting livelihoods in the area.
Government officials said they would continue consultations with stakeholders to ensure a lasting settlement and maintain stability at the company’s operations in Lugbu Chiefdom.
Authorities added that the intervention forms part of broader efforts to balance investor interests with workers’ rights and community welfare in Sierra Leone’s growing agricultural sector.
