New Chinese Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Sierra Leone’s National Security Coordinator
China’s newly appointed ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Zhao Yong, paid a courtesy visit on Monday to the country’s National Security Coordinator, Abdulai Caulker, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the meeting at the Office of National Security (ONS) in Freetown, Caulker welcomed Zhao and his delegation, praising the “excellent” relationship between Sierra Leone and China and pledging to continue strengthening cooperation. He briefed the ambassador on the ONS’s role in coordinating national security and encouraged the embassy to take an inventory of Chinese nationals working in provincial areas to ensure their safety and protect their investments.
In response, Zhao expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing friendly relations with Sierra Leone. He said his office would support the ONS in its work and collaborate to ensure that Chinese nationals comply with local and national laws.
Zhao also pledged continued support for Sierra Leone’s security sector, noting the importance of safeguarding Chinese citizens and their investments across the country. The Deputy National Security Coordinator and Chief of Staff of the ONS were present and contributed to the discussions.
