The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party has announced that its MPs will refrain from participating in parliamentary duties until their Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, is released, party Minority Leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo said on Thursday.
Speaking outside the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, where Dumbuya spent the night in detention, Kargbo said another APC member was also detained for allegedly making similar statements. Dumbuya is accused of cyberbullying the president.
Kargbo condemned the detentions, describing them as an “undermining of democracy” that could affect upcoming party activities, including local-level elections.
According to Kargbo, Dumbuya’s file is being sent to the office of the Attorney General for advice, citing information from CID sources.
“The opposition stands with the Secretary General. That’s why we came here to express solidarity with him,” Kargbo said.
