China’s Premier Li Qiang has called for stronger efforts to accelerate industrial modernisation, expand green development and improve people’s livelihoods, according to state media, during an inspection tour of eastern China’s Shandong province.
Li highlighted the role of smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence in upgrading traditional industries and fostering new growth drivers, urging local authorities and enterprises to push forward technological innovation to strengthen China’s manufacturing base.
He also stressed the need to step up investment in green and low-carbon technologies, saying they were critical to building a modern energy system and supporting high-quality development, the reports said.
The premier underscored the importance of the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), calling for careful planning to cultivate emerging industries, enhance productivity and ensure that economic growth translates into tangible improvements in people’s well-being.
Li said development policies should place greater emphasis on employment, income growth and public services, while balancing economic expansion with environmental sustainability.
China has been seeking to stabilise growth amid global economic uncertainty, while accelerating its transition toward advanced manufacturing and cleaner energy as part of its long-term development strategy.
