Rokel Commercial Bank Sierra Leone today donated one ton of iron rods and 100 bags of cement to the Government Rokel Secondary School through the Rokel Old Pupils Association (ROPA), in a gesture aimed at supporting ongoing development efforts at the historic institution.
The donation, made at a ceremony held on the school compound Tower Hill in Freetown, was presented by the bank’s Managing Director, Dr. Walton Gilpin, on behalf of the staff and management.

The event was attended by bank staff, pupils, teachers, members of ROPA, and the school’s board and administration.
In his remarks, Dr. Gilpin commended the partnership between the bank and the school, describing it as a “symbol of shared heritage and purpose.” He noted that both institutions, bearing the name Rokel—after Sierra Leone’s longest river—represent pillars of national development, one in education and the other in finance.
ROPA President Jariatu Samura expressed gratitude to the bank for responding to the association’s call for support. “This collaboration shows what is possible when institutions that share both name and history come together to invest in the future,” she said.
The school’s principal and board members also thanked the bank for its contribution, highlighting that the materials will be used to enhance classroom infrastructure and learning conditions.
The ceremony featured goodwill statements from representatives of both the bank and the school, emphasizing the need for sustained collaboration between the financial and educational sectors in promoting community development.
