Pharmacy Board Issues Warning Over Counterfeit Diclofenac Tablets

More News

Sierra Leone’s medicines regulator has warned the public about counterfeit diclofenac tablets circulating in the country, saying the fake drugs pose serious health risks.

In an alert issued late Tuesday, the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone said the product was an unlicensed copy of Paludic-branded diclofenac, which is legitimately registered with Abanita Pharmaceuticals.

The counterfeit version, allegedly imported illegally by Leigh Pharmaceuticals of 10 Regent Road, had not been cleared by the board and its safety and effectiveness could not be guaranteed, the notice said.

Officials urged pharmacies, hospitals and the public to check packaging carefully and report any suspicious stock. They also advised consumers to buy medicines only from licensed suppliers.

Diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory pain reliever, is commonly used to treat joint and muscle pain.
