Freetown, Sierra Leone — Magistrate Shar Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Thursday, May 15, 2025, ordered the remand of ex-military officer Sallieu Jalloh over his alleged involvement in the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023.

Jalloh made his first court appearance to face two charges: treason, contrary to Section 3(1)(a) of the Treason and State Offences Act of 1963, and misprision of treason, contrary to law.

According to the charge sheet, between January 1, 2024, and March 13, 2025, in Freetown, Jalloh allegedly conspired to overthrow the government of Sierra Leone by unlawful means.

The particulars of the offence allege that between January 1 and January 31, 2024, Jalloh conspired with Captain Aiah Aba Senessie, Sergeant Bangura of Waterloo, Retired Sergeant Kamara, and others to procure AK-47 rifles intended for use in the alleged coup plot.

Further, the court heard that Jalloh allegedly contacted police officers and military personnel to facilitate the purchase of the firearms. He is also accused of contacting Retired Sergeant Kamara in Waterloo, informing him that Captain Senessie wanted to purchase AK-47 rifles and providing him with the contact information of Sergeant Kamanda to assist in the procurement of the weapons.

The indictment also alleges that on March 8, 2024, Jalloh instructed Sandy Sesay and others to be on standby for the anticipated coup attempt, which was described as “imminent.”

Additionally, the prosecution claims that between November 26, 2023, and November 26, 2024, Jalloh had knowledge of the alleged treasonous activities by Captain Senessie and others but failed to disclose this information to the authorities.

No plea was taken from the accused, and he was denied bail. Jalloh has been remanded at the Correctional Center until Monday, May 19, 2025, when the matter will be mentioned again in court.
